Borrow a Board

Full Members* at Walton and Frinton Yacht Club now have the fantastic opportunity to Borrow a Board from the club.

Paddling at The Club

Do you already have a paddleboard or kayak? If so and if you are a full member, you can launch from the club. Depending on the height of tide, you can paddle from the club approximately 2 hours either side of high tide, sometimes 3 hours but do check the tide times carefully. It is often best to go as early as tides allow if you plan on coming back on the same tide, this way you can come back with the tide assisting or as it goes slack rather than paddling back against the tide.

It is advisable to take advantage of your low draught and avoid the main channels, this way avoiding the heaviest of the tidal flow, boats on the water, and often affording some shelter from the wind.

It is approximately half a nautical mile (nm) under 1 kilometre (km) North to Spit Buoy, from which you can turn left to head out past Titchmarsh Marina to The Wade, Kirby Creek or all the way to Landermere and Beaumont Quay. Alternatively carry on North up the Walton Channel and then left at the concrete barges into Hamford Water, this takes you around the North of Horsey Island and near enough guarantees a seal sighting.

You will also find Stone Point near the concrete barges, this is a lovely beach to stop for a picnic and frequently you will find you have the beach to yourself. Please make sure to familiarise yourself with the map so you land on Stone Point and not the privately owned Horsey Island.

Please be aware that The Wade and Hamford Water can be quite rough in some conditions and you should be careful to only paddle within your ability level, if in doubt, do not paddle.

  • Launching/Landing at the club is restricted to Full Members* or those with a guest paddler pass

*Full member includes Adult, Senior, Family, Intermediate, Student, Cadet and Overseas.
