The racing is run on a handicap basis using the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick system and is split into two classes.
Class 1 is for the faster boats and currently includes International Canoes, Phantoms, Hadron H2s, Aeros, Supernovas and Lasers.
Class 2 is for the slower boats such as Laser 4.7s, Picos, Topazes, Toppers and the local Jewels. The Jewel is a traditional 14′ clinker-built 2-person dinghy built for the Club in the 1950s by James and Stone of Brightlingsea.
