Day Sailing
RYA Day Sailing includes passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising. An essential and fun part of every enthusiast’s skill set.

August 26th - 28th
Mon 26th 1430-1930
Tues 27th 1500-2000
Wed 28th 1530-2030
This busy course covers the theoretical steps of preparing and planning a journey. The theory is then put into practice on a day’s sail, following your planned route.
The course will include:
Anchoring
Total inversion recovery (turtling)
Use of a GPS
Tidal heights and streams
Weather
Using a compass
Dead reckoning
It would be an advantage for sailors wishing to take part in this course to be able to carry out manoeuvres covered in the Seamanship Skills course syllabus.
Course requirements: Skills and background knowledge to at least the standard of RYA youth sailing stage 4
What you will need:
You are taking part in a watersport and you are likely to get wet, so always remember a change of clothes and a towel.Clothing for training – wetsuits are ideal, but if not, lightweight stuff that dries easily, with a couple of layers if it is cold, plus waterproofs.
Trainers or dinghy boots for the feet
Hats- always a wooly hat! remember it will always feel colder on the water. AND a wide brimmed hat if sunny
Sun bloc - helps prevent windburn and sunburn
Packed lunch + water or other drink
Medication- if required- clearly labelled with instructions and name. please make instructor aware
Optional extras: knee pads, sailing gloves
Buoyancy aids will be provided by the club.
Please arrive at the clubhouse 15 mins before the start time, changed and ready for training. Students will be met by an instructor at the front of the clubhouse on the benches.
